On the outskirts of Puno you will find mysterious pre-Inca ruins called Chullpas (funeral towers). They sit on the windswept altiplano on a peninsula in Lake Umayo at Sillustani. The stonemasonry is exquisite and the structures form quite an impression on such a harsh landscape. Many archaeologists and historians find them more complex and superior even to Inca engineering.
Start this 2-day/1-night experience by visiting the man-made reed Islands of Uros and learn about the ancient Aymara people who first created them. Then continue to Amantani Island where you’ll meet your host family and enjoy meals and festivities with them while having time to explore the island. The next day you’ll visit Taquile Island and embark on an uphill hike for breathtaking views.
See the sacred sites of Bolivian Lake Titicaca on your way to La Paz. Departing from Puno, cross the border into Bolivia, and continue to Copacabana. Next, board a luxurious catamaran and set sail to Isla del Sol. Here, you’ll see the principal archaeological sites with your guide. Finally, sail back to Copacabana, and continue on the road to your comfortable La Paz hotel. Price available upon request. Please contact a Travel Advisor.
Take the Catamaran cruise to the isolated Challapampa Village of Isla del Sol. Visitors have the opportunity to interact with one of the most unspoiled indigenous Lake Titicaca villages. In the evening, enjoy a candle-lit dinner and spend the night on board the Catamaran in comfortable cabins. After breakfast and time to enjoy the views, land transfer to La Paz or sail back to Puno. Price available upon request. Please contact a Travel Advisor.
